ABOUT NICK FORD

Nick Ford is a South African bassist and composer known for his innovative approach to jazz. His ability to blend technical precision with emotional resonance has established him as an artist of note within South Africa's music scene. His music engages listeners through genre-blending compositions and a conceptual approach which bridges the gaps between artistic media. His career gained momentum with the release of his debut single, "The Verdict," in 2020. His EP, Trial of the Self (2021), was released shortly afterwards and further revealed his introspective approach, exploring personal growth through rich, unique pieces. 2025 marked a significant milestone with his first full-length studio album, Terra Solus, demonstrating his evolution as a musician.

In addition to his jazz work, Nick has expanded his performance credits to musical theatre, arranging and session work. His musical theater engagements include the international tour of We Will Rock You (2022/23) in the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, and Tel Aviv, Mamma Mia! (2024) in South Africa, and the upcoming Dear Evan Hansen (2025) in South Africa, all with Showtime Management.

Nick's contributions to music have been acknowledged through a nomination for Best Jazz Act at the Urban Music Awards and a feature in Glamour Magazine's "5 South African Jazz Artists on the Rise." He has also performed with ensembles such as the National Youth Jazz Band (2023 and 2024) and a variety of acclaimed South African jazz artists. Nick has engaged in discussions about music, mindfulness, and mentorship with various media outlets, including Cape Talk Radio and Musically Mine. His perspective highlights his belief in jazz as a medium for growth and connection, combining technical skill with authentic expression. Nick Ford's creative work positions him as a notable contributor to South African jazz.
